Reviews: Eminem – Recovery
I want to start this off my saying i’m a big Eminem fan. I’ve been a big fan since i first saw “My Name Is” being played on MTV. Over the years though we’ve seen drugs ruin his music. Encore (even though i liked some of the songs) lacked what the 3 albums before it had. Relapse was his return and it was slightly better than Encore but that wasn’t saying much.
He finally got himself clean and created “Recovery” and I can say he’s back. This is easily his best album since The Eminem Show. Overall it’s full of solid tracks with very few missteps. You don’t know how close i was to giving this album a perfect rating.
Overall Rating: 4.5/5
Review track for track after the jump if you like
1. Cold Wind Blows
Great intro to the album. The hook is ok but Eminem’s lyrics is really where the song shines. 5/5
2. Talkin’ 2 Myself Feat. Kobe
“those last two albums didnt count” Another dope joint from Eminem that actually surprised me. A dope hook from Kobe, dope lyrics from Eminem, and a nice beat. 4/5
3. On Fire
Right when the beat came on i knew this song would be hot and i was not let down. 3 tracks in and I haven’t heard a bad track yet. 4/5
4. Won’t Back Down Feat. Pink
A joint i was worried about but is actually pretty good. A hard rock/hip hop beat featuring Pink. He spits some pretty dope lyrics on this one. 4/5
5. W.T.P.
This is the first song of the album that i think is just ok. W.T.P stands for White Trash Party by the way. It’s not bad but not good. 3/5
6. Going Through Changes
He talks about Hayley (However he spells it), Losing Proof, and shaking addiction. Another solid emotional joint from Eminem and one of the best on the album. 5/5
7. Not Afraid
The first single from Eminem that wasn’t silly. I wasn’t feeling this song at first but since it’s release it’s grown on me. 4/5
8. Seduction
Nice beat, nice lyrics and nice hook has been the story for this album so far. Another solid song from Eminem. 4/5
9. No Love Feat. Lil Wayne
Honestly he should have left Lil’ Wayne off of this because his verse is horrible. Produced by Just Blaze, this beat shows Eminem at a high lyrically on the album. Although it is kinda hard to listen to this and not think of Night at the roxbury. 4/5
10. Space Bound
At this point it’s the same story with every song so far. Another solid one from Eminem all around. I have nothing else to really say but he’s coming with it on this album. 4/5
11. Cinderella Man
The beat is nice but i don’t like the hook part saying “Cinderella Man” probably my least favorite since White Trash Party. 2.5/5
12. 25 to Life
Another solid joint from Eminem…. Same thing as usual. 4/5
13. So Bad
another solid joint. I have nothing to say about this other than incredible. You get some hard Dr. Dre production on this one (the only one dre had his hands in) 4/5
14. Almost Famous
Love the hook, beat and lyrics. Honestly probably one of my favorite songs on the album. Although the beat sounds like a few of the ones before it. “I’m back for revenge. I lost a battle but never again” 5/5
15. Love the Way You Lie Feat. Rihanna
A song i was very skeptical about. From the title alone it sounded like “Live Your Life” the sequel. It doesn’t sound like that but it’s not my favorite song on the album by any means. It’s one of my least favorite and it’s not because Rihanna is on it. 2/5
16. You’re Never Over
I really kinda dislike when Eminem sings the hooks. That was one of the main reasons i disliked “Not Afraid” in the beginning. It has some strong lyrics about his deceased friend Proof but i think the singing hook ruins the song’s capability of being a 5. 3/5
17. Untitled
Something that wasn’t on the tracklisting so i guess it’s a bonus track. It’s actually not that bad. 4/5

i must be the only person that thinks recovery is really bad and eminems worst album by far, i think its terrible, all the beats lack character and same goes for eminem, non of recovery made me laugh, made me cry, made me smile, or made me think eminem is a lyrical genious, eminems just been neutered, this album lacks calls

You really think Encore is better than Recovery? wow.

@Antnee, i agree with you buddy recovery is shit, its sell out to pop.

im really surprised by antnee, i really love the album, i particularly like that he plays both angles with relapse and recovery, between the two he has everything covered. but overall i think its full of great songs, i seriously only think that the bonus is mediocre, and WTP and So Bad. I think nearly every track is betterhtna the best track on relapse, and i liked relapse.

To be honest, you have to appreciate where Eminem has come from to honestly believe and know that he has really evolved. If you have been a fan since Infinite, or if you heard Him on the late great Notorious B.I.G track “Dead Wrong”, you know that Eminem has had some highs and some lows. He has been brilliant to the point of uncanny genius, and well dumb as hell to the point of losing an IQ point for listening to some particular songs.
I admit, I didn’t like Encore either, well not as much as I liked the others, but it is a heart wrenching album talking about the beef and if you watch the video for Toy Soldiers, it was eerily prophetic.
I was disappointed in Relapse as many of his true fans were. He said it best himself in an interview, “Relapse” was not one of those CD’s you can put in your deck and play constantly. This album is. This album is going to be a classic.
If you are new Eminem fan, go back and cop the old stuff, take the journey lyrically with him there and back, and you will realize just how much better Eminem is now.

Eminem is The Best.

i don’t mind eminem doing the chorus, he has always said he can’t really sing. it’s why he collaborates with people who can cover the background for him. the review is your opinion, but it doesn’t really resonate my feelings on the same level. that doesn’t matter; to each of their own. but i agree he should’ve left lil’wayne off the album. his parts were horrible to listen to.
i, too, like many many others, grew up with his music, and i’m proud he has evolved to where he is now. i loved his old albums, and will always loved them, but the feelings for those songs are for an era when i was still in high school. i cannot honestly say i prefer him to do the extremely crazy things now like he used to. encore was the most wtf album ever, with wtf tracks like ‘ass like that’. it was funny, and i laughed til i die, but i’m happy he doesn’t do crap like that in recovery or relapse anymore. i like the whole album, and the songs i dislike most is probably w.t.p. and almost famous.

I think personally this album is the best i liked a few others too but this stood out more Hes seemed to grow alot in his music and i love how it tells a story and how he puts his emotions and his life into it unlike other rappers he has more emotion and creativity, and seriousness in what he sings in recovery and you can tell that he’s come a long way from where he had been and what he’s gone threw eminems the best to me
