Review: Kanye West – My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

November 11, 2010

Won’t be reviewing the Bonus tracks/Itunes bonus tracks

The first RAP album we’ve heard from Kanye West since 2007. I’ve waited to see where he was going with this album and it wasn’t what I expected. My first gripe with the album is we’ve heard most of the songs during Good Fridays. If you add the songs that leaked there is only 2 songs that I didn’t hear on this album already. Another thing I hate is when people change a song you’re used to hearing one way and now you have to hear it ANOTHER way.

Too many additions to songs we’ve heard before that isn’t needed (Rick Ross on Devil In A New Dress) on this album. With that being said the additions made to songs like All Of The Lights and Runaway make the songs even better than they were before.  I’ve heard songs during Good Fridays that were better than most of the songs that made the album (Take One For The Team,  The Joy, & Don’t Look Down)

Overall it’s not a bad album but by Kanye West standards it was a let down for me. This is my least favorite RAP album by him by far. Too many songs on it that i just find….ok.

Overall: 3 out of 5

Reviews: Twista – The Perfect Storm

November 6, 2010

Not too long ago I reviewed Category F5 which was the return of the Traxster/Twista duo. I really enjoyed the album, so you can assume I was anticipating their next album together. The first problem I have with the album is one of the same problems I had with Category F5. No GMG Features (mainly Skooda Chose). I just feel like if these people are your artists you should atleast give them a spot on the album.

I know Skooda was on the best buy bonus or something with the last album but come on. The Traxster beats are on point here as usual and Twista doesn’t disappoint with the lyrics. The second problem is Twista’s attempts to try and fit in with whats hot. it comes off as him imitating the new songs that get played “I Do” & the track with Flocka Flame.

Overall it’s obviously nowhere near as good as Adrenaline Rush or even Kamikaze but its a solid effort. Honestly I think the worst songs on the album is the ones where he strays away from the sound that people loved on Adrenaline Rush.

Overall: 3 out of 5

Review: Rah Digga – Classic (Real Talk/First Line Rhyme)

September 17, 2010

Brought to you by First Line Rhyme + Real Talk

1. The Book Of Rashida

Rah Digga opens her new album, “Classic” off with an aurally interesting joint. She provides hard lyrics over Nottz’s menacing and gothic-esque instrumentation. She introduces the remainder of the album and gives us a sample of just what it is she’s about to put us through. Here we go…

Review: Rick Ross – Teflon Don

July 13, 2010

There’s alot of songs on the Albert Anastasia Ep that should be on this album. Alot of songs on there are better than the songs that made the album. One problem i have is the songs that made the EP are re-recorded for the album. of course the quality is better but when you do that it just doesn’t have the same feeling the original had.

It is not better than Deeper Than Rap at all. To me Deeper Than Rap was almost flawless and this has a few problems that could have been fixed such as keeping the original songs and possibly cutting some of the amount of features. I also dislike that it’s only 11 songs on the album. This rating would be higher if certain songs weren’t changed.

Review: The Dream – Love King

June 27, 2010

When Love/Hate came out i loved the album from front to back. The 2nd album Love Vs Money came out and although i liked it, it wasn’t as good as the album before it. The Dream is back with what is supposed to be his final album (believe it when i see it) So what do i think of the album?

I hate to say it but not only is it not as good as Love/Hate but it’s not even as good as Love Vs Money. Let’s go to the positive. He provides the baby making anthems he’s known for but the Production and songs lack this time around. It almost sounds rushed to me. I also think too many of the songs sound the same. A lot of the songs sound like obvious attempts at recreating the R. Kelly 12 Play era…But it doesn’t work.

Reviews: Eminem – Recovery

June 8, 2010

I want to start this off my saying i’m a big Eminem fan. I’ve been a big fan since i first saw “My Name Is” being played on MTV. Over the years though we’ve seen drugs ruin his music. Encore (even though i liked some of the songs) lacked what the 3 albums before it had. Relapse was his return and it was slightly better than Encore but that wasn’t saying much.

He finally got himself clean and created “Recovery” and I can say he’s back. This is easily his best album since The Eminem Show. Overall it’s full of solid tracks with very few missteps. You don’t know how close i was to giving this album a perfect rating.

Overall Rating: 4.5/5

Review: Drake – Thank Me Later

June 2, 2010

If you don’t want to see the review song by song then scroll all the way to the bottom for the overall rating.

1. Fireworks Feat Alicia Keys
The intro to the album “Thank Me Later” starts off with a piano and fireworks. The beat is mellow one but dope none the less and Alicia Keys adds some much needed vocals to the track. 4/5

2. Karaoke
Karaoke is all singing and no rapping from Drake. I could have honestly done without this one. 2/5
